Character Spotlight: Spider-Man 2099

Hailing from the alternate future of Earth-928… Miguel O’Hara — known as Spider-Man 2099 — swings into MARVEL SNAP!

The first time this moves to a location, destroy an enemy card there.

Miguel O’Hara was a brilliant, prodigal child who was awarded enrollement in the Alchemax School for Gifted Youngsters at an early age. He proved to be a genetics genius and eventually became the project head of the genetics program for Alchemax.

Miguel’s genetics research at Alchemax was specifically inspired by surviving records of Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man. He held aspirations to one day create a similarly powered person, which led him to experimenting upon animals’ genetic structure. After a fatal experiment involving a criminal test subject failed, Miguel decided to quit Alchemax in protest of their unethical practices.

However, Miguel’s spiteful colleague, Tyler Stone, poisoned him with an addictive drug called Rapture as punishment for quitting Alchemax. Miguel’s system was then bound with Rapture and became dependent upon it to survive, but the drug was only available through Alchemax, forcing Miguel to either continue employment at Alchemax or buy Rapture illegally through the black market.

To escape this predicament, Miguel hatched a plan to sneak into Alchemax and use the gene alteration machine on himself in an attempt to reset his genetic code. His jealous supervisor, Aaron Delgato, sabotaged the experiment and mistakenly endowed Miguel with fantastic spider-like abilities.

After this “failed experiment,” Miguel had become genetically imprinted with 50% spider DNA, granting him superhuman strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, agility, and durability. He discovered that he had grown fangs, talons and spinerettes which could be used to fight off enemies and dexterously traverse terrain.
Following this transformation, Miguel recognized how ignorant he had been to the oppression and pain caused by corporations in his world. He saw his newfound augmented form as an opportunity for change — to protect ordinary people against abusive corporations. He decided to embrace his identity as the new Spider-Man, donning his costume and publicly proclaiming that he will use his powers to fight in favor of the greater good against those in power who abuse their influence and authority.

Spider-Man 2099 possesses many unique skills in addition to the usual strengths of a spider-person. His telescopic and night vision enable Miguel to see far greater distances, with perfect clarity, and in near-complete darkness. His genetically-enhanced metabolism affords him advanced longevity and a self-healing ability that regenerates damaged body tissues at a highly-accelerated rate.

Spider-Man 2099’s razor-sharp fangs can secrete paralyzing venom and his organic webbings are particularly strong and adhesive, making them ideal for both movement and restraining foes.

Additionally, Miguel’s genius-level intellect has proven useful in creating a special freestyle of fighting that allows him to make full use of his strength, speed, and agility, as well as gifted computer hacking and marksmanship abilities.
Miguel O’Hara is not known for messing around — the cruel world of 2099 has taught him that the ends justify the means — keenly demonstrated by his effect:

The first time this moves to a location, destroy an enemy card there.

When it comes to protecting your locations, he’s one of the most ruthless payoff cards for the Move strategy — destroying an enemy card the first time you move him each game. You can drop him after Iron Fist for a surprise attack, or play him out and leave your opponent guessing as to whether Heimdall or Ghost-Spider is coming next turn to ruin their plans. He can even destroy Cosmo the dog — but please don’t, Cosmo is adorable and doesn’t deserve it!

Character Spotlight: Spider-Ham

Today we welcome Peter Porker — the heroic spider-turned-pig known as Spider-Ham — To the world of MARVEL SNAP!

On Reveal: Transform the highest-cost card in your opponent’s hand into a Pig, keeping its Power and Cost.

Peter was a spider who originated on Earth-8311, in a universe comprised of anthropomorphic animals.

While the spider known simply as “Peter” began as nothing spectacular, residing in the basement lab of scientist May Porker, an experiment-gone-awry caused May to accidentally irradiate herself and bite Peter in a fit of delusion!

This bite from his anthropomorphic pig-scientist host then caused Peter to transform into an anthropomorphic swine himself! Peter quickly discovered that not only had he become a cartoonish pig, but also retained his spider abilities, and thus inherited May Porker’s last name and dedicated himself to fighting injustice as… Spider-Ham!

Spider-Ham’s abilities extend beyond just the Spider-Sense demonstrated by those more ordinary Spider-Heroes. Peter Porker also has an uncanny ability known as Spider-Nonsense — which enables his cartoonish spidey-pig nature to only become stronger in response to surrounding danger! The greater the threat, the more cartoon Spider-Ham becomes!

Spider-Ham’s Spider-Nonsense is demonstrated in MARVEL SNAP through his wacky On Reveal ability:

On Reveal: Transform the highest-cost card in your opponent’s hand into a Pig, keeping its Power and Cost.

Peter whips out a massive cartoon mallet from Hammer Space, right in the face of your opponent’s most expensive card — transforming it into a Pig with no abilities! That ability is no boar!

Spider-Ham is a great response to large end-game plays such as Doctor Doom, Galactus, Heimdall, Odin, and Death! You can play him on turn 1 for some quick disruption, or hold him until later in the game to surprise opponents by neutralizing their finisher.

Let’s all give the kooky Spider-Ham a warm welcome, as he hogs his share of the spotlight in the Spider-Versus season of MARVEL SNAP!!

Character Spotlight: Silk

MARVEL SNAP’s newest initiate is the incredibly agile spider-hero — Cindy “Silk” Moon!

After ANY card is played here, this moves to another location.

Cindy Moon was born to Nari and Albert Moon Sr. in Manhattan, New York, where she grew up as a Korean-American teen coasting through her classes on her keen photographic memory. While her parents preached prioritizing her studies, Cindy preferred spending her time playing hockey and hanging out with her boyfriend, Hector Cervantez.

That is, until one day, when she attended a science demonstration for extra credit, where she was bitten by the same irradiated spider which bit fellow attendee Peter Parker. Peter Parker’s life changed forever when he was bitten by the radioactive spider — but unbeknownst to Peter for over a decade, the spider had also bitten his classmate, Cindy Moon. This one tiny bite completely shifted their lives and identities, as they discovered strange, superhuman spider-like abilities forming.

When her powers were revealed, Cindy was promptly taken from her family and handed over to Ezekiel Sims, a billionaire who had discovered certain people have powers that mystically connect them to animals. Sims held Cindy in a bunker where they honed her newfound abilities and hid her from Morlun — a member of a group called the Inheritors, who hunted down people who were also animal totems.

Cindy spends 10 years in Ezekiel’s bunker, receiving combat training and watching recordings of the heroic Spider-Man in order to better understand and control her powers. During this time, Cindy’s family mysteriously disappears and she consequently gains a much stronger motive toward crimefighting justice.

When Peter Parker learns of Cindy’s situation, he breaks her out from the vault and they instantly discover an irresistible attraction to one another due to their intermingling spidey pheromones.

With Cindy Moon back out on the streets, she adopted the vigilante superhero identity “Silk” and joined forces with Peter in battling Morlun. She also landed a job at the Fact Channel, where she used the news company’s resources to track down her parents’ whereabouts. Being locked away for so long certainly took its toll on Cindy, but her inner strength is undeniable, as is her determination to take back control of her life and fight evil as Silk.

Silk is one of the most agile heroes in the Multiverse, able to generate organic webbing from her fingertips to form weblines, barbed hooks, and even clothing. She exhibits superhuman strength, speed, endurance, and is able to cling to walls with perfect balance and equilibrium.

Silk’s ability to nimbly jump all over the place is represented in MARVEL SNAP by her effect:

After ANY card is played here, this moves to another location.

Her Spidey abilities make her a particularly potent addition to Move-based strategies. You can bounce her from location to location to buff your Kraven, or sneak her into hard-to-reach locations like Sanctum Sanctorum. If you’d like to keep her 5 Power in one place, try filling your other locations with cards to make her a simple but strong 2/5 play.

Let’s help Cindy Moon in her search for her family by honing her combat abilities and fighting off the baddies of New York together — Welcome, Silk, to MARVEL SNAP!!

Character Spotlight: Ghost-Spider

Gwendolyn Stacy of Earth-65 web-swings into MARVEL SNAP as Ghost-Spider!

On Reveal: The last card you played moves here.

In a universe where Gwen Stacy was the one bitten by a genetically-engineered spider instead of Peter Parker, she became New York’s super heroine with arachnid-like super-powers!

Following the death of her mother, Gwen was raised alone by her father George. Her freedom-seeking artistic spirit was often at odds with her NYPD father’s brand of ethics, often leading Gwen to seek seclusion and solace by drumming alone in her room.
Over time, Gwen bonded over a shared love of music and developed a close friendship with her neighbor and fellow introvert Peter Parker. While attending Midtown High School, Gwen developed relationships with other students such as the rebel Harry Osborne and The Mary Janes — her band, which she formed with a group of schoolmates.

At this phase of life, Gwen was bitten by a radioactive spider, granting her arachnid-like powers and the means to start her career as a crimefighter! The media dubbed her: Spider-Woman.
Retired crimefighter Janet van Dyne gave Gwen web shooters and a costume fit for a spider-hero and Gwen set off to put a stop to wrongdoers in NYC!

It wasn’t long until the influence of Spider-Woman led to Gwen being blamed for the death of her close friend Peter Parker, and she was subsequently branded a criminal.
Thus, Gwen took it upon herself to avenge Peter by doubling her efforts to fight crime and redeem herself.
She became the vigilante known as Ghost-Spider.

Ghost-Spider uses her great powers responsibly to protect New York and the Web of Life — Even when the world doesn’t know about her good deeds, Gwen never gives up trying to be the best spider-hero she can be!

Gwen’s spidey-powers include Spidery Sense, Web Shooters, Superhuman Strength, and Wing Gliders. She’s an incredibly mobile hero and skilled freestyle brawler.
Ghost-Spider Gwen is represented in MARVEL SNAP through her agile ability:

On Reveal: The last card you played moves here.

Let’s welcome the free-spirited spider-hero Gwen “Ghost-Spider” Stacy to MARVEL SNAP!!

Character Spotlight: The Living Tribunal

The almighty personification of multiversal law — The Living Tribunal joins MARVEL SNAP!

Ongoing: Split your total Power evenly among all locations.

The Living Tribunal is a vastly powerful conceptual being who has existed as long as the Multiverse itself, with the purpose of safeguarding the Multiverse from an imbalance of mystical forces. The Living Tribunal appears as a giant golden humanoid with three cloaked faces — Equity, Necessity, and Vengeance — Each represents a different personality.

The Living Tribunal often acts as an arbiter and judge of other conceptual beings, including Eternity, Infinity, Death, and Oblivion. Unlike other conceptual beings, the Living Tribunal has no counterpart in other realities — Only one Living Tribunal exists and is responsible for all judgements.
The Living Tribunal is not guided by personal motivation or desires, but is instead entirely impartial and acts in accordance with what is determined to be the greater interest of the Multiverse.

The Living Tribunal’s unique role as the bearer of cosmic order is represented in MARVEL SNAP with the effect:

Ongoing: Split your total Power evenly among all locations.

As one of the most powerful beings in the Multiverse, The Living Tribunal holds the authority to balance your Power at all locations.

The Living Tribunal can help you add Power to Sanctum Sanctorum or distribute the bonuses from Shuri’s Lab or Nidavellir where you need it most. Play him with cards like Iron Man and Ebony Maw that grant a big bonus to one location, and spread your Power far and wide!

Character Spotlight: High Evolutionary

The brilliant Oxford-educated geneticist — turned maniacal cosmic philosopher — joins the fray in MARVEL SNAP!

At the start of the game, unlock the potential of your cards with no abilities.

Herbert Edgar Wyndham was a young scientist of great promise, who, during his doctoral studies at Oxford University, developed a controversial serum that led to his expulsion. This heretical serum held many untapped secrets to altering genetic code, and further fueled Wyndham’s desire to understand the complexities of evolution.

Following his expulsion, Wyndham used the serum and consequently transformed into the High Evolutionary — Granting him virtually unlimited knowledge and intellectual ability.

High Evolutionary then made it his mission to observe and analyze the species of the galaxy in order to create a perfect society in his vision. He established his base of operations as the Citadel of Science on Mount Wundagore, where he honed his genetic practices and created evolved anthropomorphic beings.

All the while, High Evolutionary worked under the guise of a benevolent visionary with the intent of improving lives across the galaxy. He established OrgoCorp as a front for his research and began creating a number of original species, concealing the true nature of his experiments.

In addition to his immense intellect, High Evolutionary also boasts superhuman durability capable of withstanding even the strongest attacks of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He is virtually unkillable due to his extreme longevity enabling him to heal any injuries.
High Evolutionary’s godlike genius and obsession with evolution is portrayed in MARVEL SNAP by his ability to unlock the potential of your cards with no abilities!

There are 7 iconic characters granted new effects by the potential-unlocking ability of High Evolutionary:

  • Evolved Wasp: On Reveal: Afflict 2 random enemy cards here with -1 Power.
  • Evolved Misty Knight: When you end a turn with unspent Energy, give another friendly card +1 Power.
  • Evolved Shocker: On Reveal: Give the leftmost card in your hand -1 Cost.
  • Evolved Cyclops: When you end a turn with unspent Energy, afflict 2 random enemies here with -1 Power.
  • Evolved The Thing: On Reveal: Afflict a random enemy card here with -1 Power. Repeat this twice more.
  • Evolved Abomination: Costs 1 less for each enemy card in play that’s afflicted with negative Power.
  • Evolved Hulk: Ongoing: +2 Power for each turn you ended with unspent Energy.

OH SNAP! These new abilities are snazzy!

Evolved characters play well together as a package with High Evolutionary, since they each benefit from two key game mechanics — Ending turns with unspent Energy & enemy Power reduction.

The new and improved Evolved Cyclops, for example, afflicts 2 random enemies at the Location he occupies with -1 Power, each time you end your turn with unspent Energy. Evolved Cyclops can really rack up the potency of both Evolved Abomination and Evolved Hulk, who benefit from Power reduction and unspent Energy respectively.
High Evolutionary’s evolved species also pair nicely with other Power reduction and unspent Energy lovers — Namely Spider-Woman, Scorpion, Sunspot, and She-Hulk.
Try different combinations of evolved characters in various deck archetypes, or go all-in on High Evolutionary’s vision and combine them all for ultimate synergy!

He may be a little crazy… Some would even say downright evil — But we’ll give him a pass because his powerful abilities are just too cool to pass up! Let’s welcome High Evolutionary to MARVEL SNAP!!

Character Spotlight: Iron Lad

MARVEL SNAP welcomes the psychokinetic armored, teenage version of Kang the Conqueror — Known as Iron Lad!

On Reveal: Copy the text of your deck’s top card.

In 3016, on an alternate Earth known as Other-Earth, high school robotics student Nathaniel Richards was rescued from malicious bullies by a time-travelling entity who introduced himself as Kang the Conqueror. It turns out, that Kang was attempting to save his younger self from a very painful experience in which he had been ruthlessly stabbed by bullies and hospitalized for many years as a teen. He outfitted young Nathaniel with a suit of psychokinetic armor that responded to his thoughts and gave him a glimpse into his future as a conqueror.

Horrified at what he would become, Nathaniel used the armor to flee to modern day Earth (616 reality) with a mission to find the Avengers and take down his future self.

From then on, he dubbed himself “Iron Lad,” and learned to control this newfound robotic technology — which granted him not only the powers of flight and superhuman strength, but also the ability to shape his thoughts and appearance, hack computer systems, create magnetic fields, and travel through time.

Iron Lad’s incredible abilities are demonstrated in MARVEL SNAP by his unique effect:

On Reveal: Copy the text of your deck’s top card.

With the help of Iron Lad, players can double up on card effects to create all sorts of synergies and combos!
Try pairing him with cards with huge effects — Such as Iron Man, Devil Dinosaur, Professor X, Leader, and Doctor Doom!
Absorbing Man or Odin can be played to double up on Iron Lad’s copied On Reveal effect!

The possibilities are endless with the Lad in MARVEL SNAP — Now let’s get to experimenting!
