Herbert Edgar Wyndham was a young scientist of great promise, who, during his doctoral studies at Oxford University, developed a controversial serum that led to his expulsion. This heretical serum held many untapped secrets to altering genetic code, and further fueled Wyndham’s desire to understand the complexities of evolution.
Following his expulsion, Wyndham used the serum and consequently transformed into the High Evolutionary — Granting him virtually unlimited knowledge and intellectual ability.
High Evolutionary then made it his mission to observe and analyze the species of the galaxy in order to create a perfect society in his vision. He established his base of operations as the Citadel of Science on Mount Wundagore, where he honed his genetic practices and created evolved anthropomorphic beings.
All the while, High Evolutionary worked under the guise of a benevolent visionary with the intent of improving lives across the galaxy. He established OrgoCorp as a front for his research and began creating a number of original species, concealing the true nature of his experiments.
In addition to his immense intellect, High Evolutionary also boasts superhuman durability capable of withstanding even the strongest attacks of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He is virtually unkillable due to his extreme longevity enabling him to heal any injuries.
High Evolutionary’s godlike genius and obsession with evolution is portrayed in MARVEL SNAP by his ability to unlock the potential of your cards with no abilities!
There are 7 iconic characters granted new effects by the potential-unlocking ability of High Evolutionary:
- Evolved Wasp: On Reveal: Afflict 2 random enemy cards here with -1 Power.
- Evolved Misty Knight: When you end a turn with unspent Energy, give another friendly card +1 Power.
- Evolved Shocker: On Reveal: Give the leftmost card in your hand -1 Cost.
- Evolved Cyclops: When you end a turn with unspent Energy, afflict 2 random enemies here with -1 Power.
- Evolved The Thing: On Reveal: Afflict a random enemy card here with -1 Power. Repeat this twice more.
- Evolved Abomination: Costs 1 less for each enemy card in play that’s afflicted with negative Power.
- Evolved Hulk: Ongoing: +2 Power for each turn you ended with unspent Energy.
OH SNAP! These new abilities are snazzy!
Evolved characters play well together as a package with High Evolutionary, since they each benefit from two key game mechanics — Ending turns with unspent Energy & enemy Power reduction.
The new and improved Evolved Cyclops, for example, afflicts 2 random enemies at the Location he occupies with -1 Power, each time you end your turn with unspent Energy. Evolved Cyclops can really rack up the potency of both Evolved Abomination and Evolved Hulk, who benefit from Power reduction and unspent Energy respectively.
High Evolutionary’s evolved species also pair nicely with other Power reduction and unspent Energy lovers — Namely Spider-Woman, Scorpion, Sunspot, and She-Hulk.
